Description
Melanotan I (Ac-Ser-Tyr-Ser-Nle-Glu-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly-Lys-Pro-Val-NH₂) is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) designed to activate melanocortin-1 receptors (MC1R) on melanocytes. This activation enhances melanin synthesis, resulting in a gradual, natural-appearing tan while also offering photoprotective and antioxidant benefits.
Mechanism of Action
-
Selectively binds MC1R on melanocytes to stimulate melanogenesis
-
Provides photoprotection and antioxidant support to skin cells
-
Reduces erythema and protects DNA from UV-induced damage
-
Exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, supporting skin recovery after UV exposure
-
Unlike Melanotan II, it has minimal effect on MC3R/MC4R, so it does not significantly influence libido or appetite
Dosage Guidelines (Research Use)
-
Initial Loading Phase: 1 mg per day for 10 consecutive days
-
Maintenance Phase: 2 mg per week, divided into one or two injections
-
Administration Notes: More effective when paired with UV exposure (sunlight or tanning beds)
-
Mild side effects may include temporary stomach cramping for 15–30 minutes post-injection
Useful Information
-
Class: Synthetic α-MSH analogue / melanocortin receptor agonist
